Post match reaction from both camps. Newcastle United came out 1-0 winnger at St James' Park as Nobby Solano slotted the home side ahead after 82 minutes.
WENGER:
"How many fouls have been made without any intention to play the ball without being punished, yet Gilberto got sent off for those two yellow cards?
"When we went down to ten men in the second half it became much more difficult and much more physical.
"I'm very disappointed with the result because we played well, especially in the first half. I don't think we deserved to lose.
"We created a great chance when van Persie missed the ball at the edge of the box, but it's different with ten against 11.
"It became very difficult because in the second half Newcastle went for the long ball and disturbed a lot of the game. With 10 men it became almost impossible to play."
SOUNESS:
"I am delighted with the effort, delighted with the commitment, and delighted for my players.
"In the first half we were a wee bit nervy, but did very well second half.
"With the players we had unavailable, the route we went down was trying to get Arsenal turned. We played a game that suited us."
He added:
"The players are aware of what has been written and said about them, and answered today in an extremely positive manner.
"I doubt if we could field an eleven that could fight any more. Scott Parker and Amady Faye, and the grumpy old man up front, epitomised that."
