Souness Praises Shearer

Newcastle manager Graeme Souness has hailed the leadership qualities of captain, Alan Shearer

The Magpies have new life in their campaign after beating Arsenal 1-0 last weekend and are planning a charge up the league table.

And Souness has backed Shearer to help with that task.

Souness said:

"I believe you have got no chance at a football club unless you have good senior professionals, and right now, we have some fantastic ones and he is obviously the leader of the pack in that sense,"

"He's certainly the oldest and sometimes the wisest and he's great to work with. If you look at him last week, he was - I'm maybe taking a wee bit away from Amdy Faye or Scott Parker, but he was the catalyst last week.

"He put a few people on their backsides and said 'Come on, this is how it is today for you' and there were a few followed him pretty quickly into the fray."
