Midfielder Scott Parker looks set to face Cheltenham Town on Saturday having last played for Newcastle when they took on Tottenham Hotsput at White Hart Lane on New Year's Eve.
Parker has since been recovering from a knee problem which he picked up at West Ham back in mid-December.
Speaking to nufc.co.uk, Toon boss Graeme Souness said: "We have changed our plans this week to give Scott the best chance.
"I have been told by the medical people that he will be ready by Wednesday, so instead of giving the players Wednesday off as we normally do, we gave them Tuesday off and will get them training three full days from Wednesday through to Friday.
"We're hoping that Scott will be back for the weekend, as well as Emre and Shola.
"We will see what they are like by the end of the week, but we're hoping they will all be available for selection.
"Hopefully Shola will get through the week without any reaction to the problem with his hip, but the signs were good on Monday when he didn't have any problems.
"As for Emre, we were hopeful he would have been OK for Blackburn last Saturday, but he just felt he wasn't quite right so he didn't figure.
"We will see how he is when the Cheltenham game comes around, and make a decision then."
