England striker Michael Owen, who has scored 7 goals for Newcastle United since moving from Real Madrid, is pleased with his on-going recovery from his broken metatarsal.

Owen, who broke his fifth metatarsal at White Hart Lane on December 31st, remains on course to be back in action for at least a month of the season.

The stiker is back in light training, and has now also stopped wearing a protective boot.

Michael Owen: "My recovery is going well.

"I have been on the exercise bike and can walk around in my trainers. Hopefully I will be able to start gently on the treadmill soon.

"The surgeon seems very happy that the pin is still in place and I want to be back for at least a month of the season.

"Climbing up the table is obviously the priority and the FA Cup still gives us a shot at silverware."
