No Approaches Made, Says Toon Chairman Shepherd

Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd has stated that he has not spoken with any potential candidates regarding St James' Park's vacant managerial post.

The likes of Martin O'Neill, Sam Allardyce, Ottmar Hitzfeld and Luiz Felipe Scolari have been strongly mentioned in the press and reports in various newspapers have claimed that at least two of those have already been sounded.

However, speaking to nufc.co.uk, Freddy Shepherd said: "Let's be absolutely clear about this, we have made no approach to anyone at this moment in time.

"Graeme left the club on Thursday, and for the next 48 hours all that concerned everyone at the club was getting behind Glenn Roeder as caretaker manager and beating Portsmouth.

"We did that and now we look to start moving forward again.

"At the minute, all the papers are full of speculation about who might or who might not be coming to Newcastle United.

"The guessing games have already started and that's inevitable whenever there is a vacancy. But I can only repeat that we have made no approach to anyone at this point.

"We will sit down and consider all the options available. And we will take however long is necessary to ensure we make the right appointment."

Ottmar Hitzfeld appears to be the man fans want as the Magpies' new boss, and this website has been in support of the German.
