Newcastle striker Micheal Owen has praised his skipper for breaking Jackie Milburn’s Newcastle United scoring record.

Shearer netted his 201^st Magpies goal in a 2-0 win against Pompey last weekend, and Owen has congratulated his strike partner for it.

Owen said:

"It is a fantastic achievement for Alan, I was delighted for him when he got the goal against Portsmouth.

"The fact it was a good day all round made it even sweeter for him. He scored in front of his own fans, at the Gallowgate End, and the team won - what a day.

"He has played at a few clubs over his career, and he has always scored goals, but to score so many for one club in particular is a great milestone for him.

"His record is unbelievable really, and everyone was made up for him when he broke the record."
