Caretaker boss Glenn Roeder has praised the influence of Nigerian left back, Celestine Babayaro.

Following the dismissal of Graeme Souness, Babayaro appears to be much more settled, and is finally showing the Noerth East just what he is capable of.

"I keep telling him that when I was manager of West Ham, my team talk when we played Chelsea was partly based on how we could stop him because he was such a good player and he was always a problem to us both defensively and offensively,'' said Roeder.

"He is now showing that here at St James' Park because he is a very, very good full back and we need his experience.

"Babayaro might not have had the best of times here but I really recognise what he has done for me and the team in the past couple of weeks."
