It has been reported that Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder is keen on signing Spurs striker Jermaine Defoe.

Roeder and Defoe have worked together in their time at West Ham and Roeder is keen to reunite them.

Newcastle are of course, looking for a replacement for Alan Shearer and a new partner for Michael Owen, and Defoe is seen as been perfect to fit the bill.

Spurs finished above Newcastle in the table this year but if Newcastle can win the inter-toto cup, both teams will be competing in the UEFA Cup.
