Chris Hutchings was assistant manager to Paul Jewell during his 21 month reign as Ipswich Town manager which ran from 13th January 2010 until 24th October 2012 when Jewell was sacked.

Hutchings then took the job of caretaker manager until the appointment of Mick McCarthy on 1st November 2012, overseeing a 3-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.

Following the appointment of McCarthy, Hutchings left the club by mutual consent.

Playing Career:
Hutchings was a defender during his playing career that spanned 14 years, representing clubs such as Chelsea, Brighton and Holve Albion, Huddersfield Town, Walsall and Rotherham United before hanging up his boots in 1994 at the age of 37.

Coaching Career:
After the end of his playing career, Hutchings moved into coaching, firstly as youth team coach at Rotherham and then moving to Bradford to become assistant manager to Chris Kamara. Following Kamara's sacking Hutchings continued in the same role under Paul Jewell, before being appointed manager in his own right after Paul Jewell left to take the managers job at Sheffield Wednesday.

Hutchings first forray into management was less than successful however and after just a few months of his first season of manager he was sacked after winning just one game in twelve that left the Bantams struggling against relegation back to the Football League.

The Winchester born man then once again linked up with Paul Jewell at Wigan in 2001 in what was a very successful time for the pairing. Upon Jewell's departure from the Lancashire club in 2007 Hutchings once again was named as his replacement, but like at Bradford, only lasted a few month before being sacked.

Paul Jewell secured a new job at Derby in April 2008 in which the Scouser again appointed long time friend Hutchings again to the post of assistant manager. This time the partnership was not to be successful however and after just eight months at the club Jewell was sacked, with Hutchings following him out the door not long after.

Hutchings last job before Town was a two year stint as manager at Warsaw which came to an end in early January 2011, just a few weeks before he would once again link up with Paul Jewell at Town.
