Players Devastated at Jewell Departure

According to reports in the local press this morning the Town playing squad is devestated about the departure of Paul Jewell as manager from the club.

Jewell's reign was finally brought to an end yesterday lunchtime after his position looked to be becoming ever more insecure over recent days following two games in which Town conceded late goals to consign them to defeat. Ultimately it appears that Tuesday's game against Derby County was the last straw leading to both parties deciding a change of manager would serve the club best.

Since then there has been no public reaction from any of Town's playing staff with club skipper Carlos Edwards being pulled out of the Supporters Club AGM on Wednesday, being replaced by player liason officer Simon Milton, but now a member of the playing staff who does not wish to be named has broken ranks to speak to the Ipswich Star's Dave Gooderham.

“To be honest, the lads are devastated. You can’t put the blame on the manager – we have let ourselves down on the pitch. I thought in the summer, and still think, that the squad is good enough to be promotion candidates but things this season have not started the way I expected.

"We have to remain positive and a win on Saturday is crucial. We have a great bunch of lads and if you could see us in training day-in and day-out, you would see we are a tight unit. There was no rift in the camp but now this has happened, we need to get a new manager in sooner rather than later.”
