Higginbotham Set to Leave Portman Road

On loan Stoke City defender Danny Higginbotham looks set to leave Portman Road after interest from another club, despite Town and Stoke having previously agreed to extend the players loan until the end of the season

On Friday Town boss Mick McCarthy was quoted as telling the Official Club Website that Higginbotham would be staying at the club for the rest of the season as all three parties concerned had agreed to the extended spell.

However it is believed that within the last few days interest from another as yet unidentified club, who wish to sign the former Manchester United trainee on a full contract has arisen, with the player indicating that he strongly would prefer a permenant move there appears to be little change of Higginbotham staying at Portman Road.

Speaking of the latest developments, Town boss Mick McCarthy admitted to the Official Club Website that the 35 year old looks likely to move on: “We had agreed a deal with Danny to stay but there has been interest in him from other clubs.

"That comes as no surprise as he’s a terrific professional and that’s why we wanted to keep him here. He wants the chance to earn a permanent move and preferably something which is closer to his home. I can understand that and if it works out for him then I wish him all the best of luck.”
