Edwards Confused Over Contract Option

Ipswich Town skipper Carlos Edwards admits he is unsure about who will get to decide if he gets a new contract even if he plays the more than 30 games required to earn a new deal.

The former Trinidad & Tobago international's contract comes to an end at the start of July and whilst there is an option to extend it for a further year, Edwards is unsure if the optional extra year is something that will be decided by the club or himself.

In most situations such option generally lays with the club who the player is contracted to and TownFans understands that it may well be the case in this instance, nothing however at present is officially confirmed.

Speaking to BBC Radio Suffolk, the former Sunderland wideman said: "I think it's 30-odd games. But I'm not sure if it's my option or the club's option. It's confusing. Hopefully it can be resolved sooner rather than later. I'm enjoying my football and hopefully I can be here next season.

"I'm happy with my form. There's still a lot more I can do. I don't know why I'm holding back but I'm fairly pleased with the way I'm going about things and hope I can get better as the season goes on.

"Maybe I need to chip in with a few goals. It's a part of my game that's been missing the last 18 months or so. I hope a goal can come sooner or later."

Edwards has missed very few games since joining the club, leading him to clock up over 150 matches between signing in the summer of 2009 and the start of the 2012/2013 season.

The player was appointed captain of the club in March 2012 and picked up the Players' Player of the Year award for the 2011/2012 season.
