Former Blues: Dyer Released by QPR

Former Ipswich Town midfielder Kieron Dyer has been released by Queens Park Rangers following a bad run of injuries that blighted his time at Loftus Road.

The 34 year old Ipswich born player has played just five times for the London club since joining them in the summer of 2011 but suffered an injury just three minutes into his debut for the club and with complications witn the injury sustained in his debut, Dyer was eventually ruled out for the entire season.

Despite appearing for the first team several times this season, Dyer was unable to force himself into new manager Harry Redknapp's plans and this morning the former Tottenham manager confirmed that he had decided to exercise a break in the players contract to release him from the club.

Confirming the news, former West Ham boss Redknapp told the Official QPR website passed his best wishes to Dyer for the future: “I’d like to thank Kieron for his services to QPR.

“If he can stay clear of injuries I’m sure there’s clubs out there that will offer him the chance to play football. He wasn’t in my plans and I think he’s got something to offer someone, so we wish him all the best.”

Dyer made his debut for Town in the 1996/1997 season for Town, having come through the Ipswich Town academy. He went on to appear in 90 league games for the club beofre leaving for Newcastle in 1999 for a club record £6m citing that he needed to be playing in the Premier League in order to enhance his international prospects.

The 5ft 8in midfielder would spend eight seasons at Newcastle following his transfer, appearing 190 times for the Toon in the league, but much of his time at the club, particuarly in the second half of his stay at St James' Park, was disrupted by ongoing injury problems that led to the player being sold to West Ham during the summer of 2007.

Dyer managed just 30 league games with West Ham in four seasons at the club, with injuries hitting the player even harder than during his Newcastle days. This was highlighted by the fact in his first three seasons at Upton Park, the player did not manager to complete 90 minutes in a single game in all competitions.

Towards the end of the 2010/2011 season Dyer returned home, coming on loan to Town for a month where he appeared twice as a sub. After returning to the Hammers, Dyer was released at the end of the season, signing for last club QPR in the summer of 2012.

Whilst Dyer appeared for England 33 times, between 1999 and 2007, many wonder what could have been for this very promising former Town star, had he not been troubled by injuries throughout his career.
