Our record against the Red Devils

We all love a good win over our Lancastrian enemies, and have done since that first win in 1925. United (you know which one I mean) won 2-0 at home that day in front of over 26,000 fans. I'm sure they were going as crazy on the Kop as we were at Old Trafford when Beckford scored THAT goal. 

On the whole our record against the old enemy isn't too great.

From 100 matches we've only won 25, with the Red Devils winning 42, leaving 33 draws. Of the 51 games at home we have a slightly better record, winning 16 and drawing 14. So instead of focusing on the overall picture, we decided to pick out our top 6 wins.

Saturday October 3rd, 1925 - Leeds Utd 2-0 Man Utd (First Division)

Nothing is as sweet as the first one. After failing to win any of our first four matches against our neighbours, the duck was finally broken.

Saturday December 20th, 1930 - Leeds Utd 5-0 Man Utd (First Division)

An early Christmas present for the fans and the club, as Leeds recorded an emphatic 5-0 win. It still stands as the club's record win over Manchester United.

Saturday December 7th, 1931 - Man Utd 2-5 Leeds Utd (Second Division)

Something to savour for the fans following relegation to the Second Division. A first win at Old Trafford for the Boys in White would surely have helped stomach the taste of relegation.

Wednesday 31st March, 1965 - Man Utd 0-1 Leeds Utd (FA Cup)

Hardly a classic game of football, but significant nonetheless. A drab 0-0 draw had forced a replay at Nottingham's City Ground. The initial game saw the two teams kicking the living daylights out of each other, but the replay saw a better quality match with a certain Billy Bremner grabbing the winner.

Saturday February 19th, 1972 - Leeds United 5-1 Man Utd (First Division)

A rampant Don Revie side stuck five past the enemy in this famous War of the Roses clash. Often referred to as the 'Demolition Job', a hat-trick for Mick Jones and goals for Alan Clarke and Peter Lorimer ensured an outstanding victory for the Whites. Watch the highlights here.

Sunday January 3rd, 2010 - Man Utd 0-1 Leeds Utd (FA Cup)

Leeds are making a trend of beating the Red Devils in the FA Cup, but this time it was against all the odds. After years of financial pain and two relegations, Leeds found themselves in League One and facing the task of travelling to Old Trafford for an FA Cup Third Round tie. What happened was a game that none of us will forget in a hurry. Cult hero Jermaine Beckford using his pace to get in behind the United defence and slotting cooly past the keeper.
