United edge Owls in Yorkshire derby

3,998 United fans saw their boys win a frantic Yorkshire derby 2-1 at Hillsborough through goals from Charlie Taylor and Steve Morison as the lads ended their poor run of form.

Leeds' five-game losing streak game to an end on Saturday with a crucial derby win over local rival Sheffield Wednesday. Leeds were positive from the outset, with Sam Byram doing a lot of the early running and Alex Mowatt missing two good chances early on.

Redfearn's men continued their early dominance until Lloyd Isgrove was fouled by Byram in the box and Chris Maguire slotted home the spot kick for the home side.

The lead lasted until the 57th minute when defender Charlie Taylor managed to scramble the ball in following pin-ball in the box from a Luke Murphy free-kick. Steve Morison then gave the Mighty Whites the lead on 72 minutes after Byram played him through on goal. 

Leeds were able to hold on to their lead for the rest of the gave, which was no more than they deserved after a stellar performance from the boys. The result leaves Leeds in 15th place, wedged in between Wednesday and  West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town with one game to go. 

A minute's silence for the victims of the Bradford City Fire 30 years ago was perfectly observed by both sets of fans.

Leeds boss Neil Redfearn was pleased with the performance. "It was a very good performance. I thought we were the better side despite going 1-0 down. Credit to the lads they got it spot on."
