Shire Set For The Play Offs

Any slim hopes that the Shire could avoid participating in the pyramid play-off disappeared this afternoon at Ochilview where visitors Queen’s Park boosted their League Two/One play-off chances with a 3-0 win.

It’s a result that keeps East Stirlingshire ten points behind second bottom Montrose, who also lost 3-0 today, but with only three fixtures left there will be no great escape.

Ex-Shire player Jamie McKernon opened the scoring for the Spiders with a penalty in the thirteenth minute after Shire’s Ross Fisher had fouled Paul Woods. Home keeper Richard Barnard made good saves from Queen’s Vinnie Berry and Chris Duggan but Vincent Berry made it 2-0 from David Galt's cross and Paul Woods ended a comfortable first half for the Queen's when he fired in the third just before half-time.

The visitors from Mount Florida could have increased their lead in the second half through Paul Woods, twice, and Chris Duggan but Shire struggled to create many opportunities.
