Town 3-2 Argyle Report

Ipswich Town came back from 2-0 down after 15 minutes to win 3-2 with ten men against Plymouth Argyle at Portman Road earlier today.

Substitute Shefki Kuqi scored twice in the final 10 minutes to bring Town level and put them ahead to cancel out two goals in the first 15 minutes from Plymouth.

After only 13 minutes Town found them selves looking down the barrel of certain defeat after two goals less than a minute apart, Steve Adams opened the scoring heading in Tony Capaldi’s cross.

A mix up in the Town defence allowed Stevie Crawford to fire the ball home to give the visitors a 2-0 lead, and the saying it never rains but it pours springs to mind as Fabian Wilnis was booked for dissent moments later.

Plymouth then had some bad luck of their own with Tony Capaldi and Peter Gilbert both having to leave the field due to injury being replaced by Hodges and Doumbe.

Town got a goal in the in 24th minute, Jason De Vos out jumped the Argyle defence from Jim Magilton’s corner to give Town hope of some points.

That glimmer of hope was wiped out just two minutes later as Fabian Wilnis was red carded for a high kick on Plymouth‘s Keith Lasley (serious foul play).

Town ended the half a man down and a goal down with a lot of work to do if there were to keep there 100% home record intact. Joe Royle made two changes at half time Matt Richards and Shefki Kuqi replacing Tony Dinning and Pablo Couñago.

Town remained on the back foot for much of the second half, if not all but the last ten minutes when Shefki Kuqi scored twice to give Town all three points and rob Plymouth of what would have been three well deserved points in the process.

Darren Bent crossed in to Kuqi who some how got the ball past the Argyle keeper to get Town level in the 82nd minute.

Drissa Diallo set up Kuqi’s second goal, Drissa’s cross from the right wing was met by the head of the flying Finn who made no mistake from the middle of the penalty to put Town in front with four minutes of normal time left.

Town rode out the final minutes of the game to move up into 3rd place one point behind Reading who travel to Portman Road on Tuesday night.
