Kuqi: Glad Of Recall
Ipswich Town striker Shefki Kuqi is delighted at his re-call to the Finland international squad after quitting last month.
The 27 year old front man was called into the squad to replace Chelsea striker Mikkel Forssell injured his knee and was rule out for six months Finland coach Antii Muurinen
Called upon to Shefki to fill his boots, a call Shefki happily accepted.
Kuqi: “I never wanted to cause a problem and spoke to the coach about the
situation. It was pointless for me to travel with the squad all over the place
when I was not going to get a game.
“The coach plays one striker up
front and when Mikkel was fit he was going to be the starter and that was only
right because he has been fantastic for Finland.
“Unfortunately for
Finland, but perhaps fortunately for me, Mikkel had a recurrence of a knee
injury and can not play.
“The coach explained that I would be starting
and so I was jumped at the chance.”.
Kuqi believes that his fine form for Town in recent matches earned him the
call, adding: “We have had a really good start to the season at Ipswich and I
have helped us go level top with a couple of goals.
“That has really
given me confidence and no doubt doing well for Ipswich has earned me this
selection.
“Just as at Ipswich when I get the chance I work as hard as I
can to take it.”.
