Ipswich Town reserve goalkeeper Shane Supple believes he is ready to make the step up from the reserve side to the first team should he have to.

The 17 year old goalkeeper was due to be on the bench for Saturday’s game against Watford but a broken toe forced him to miss the game but it didn’t stop him putting in a great performance in last nights 0-0 with the Southampton reserve side.

Shane has said: “It has been a big step up for me this year and it has been a great experience for me being involved in the first team.

“There is always that thought in the back of your head that you might get on in an emergency and it would be nice, but it is unlikely.

“I'm happy enough at the moment to be on the bench and playing in the reserves for the next couple of years.

“I doubt I would be called on but, if it did happen, then I feel I could step up to do a job and handle it.”

There is a real possibility that Shane could be on the bench more often for the first team as Joe Royle would like to loan out Lewis Price in order for the 20 year old to gain more first team experience.
