Ipswich Town season ticket holder and radio DJ John Peel OBE has suffered a heart attack while on holiday with his wife in Peru.

The 65 year old was a Liverpool fan since child but adopted Town as his second side when he moved to Suffolk and married Sheila who is a passionate Ipswich fan.

Town’s Head of Communications and Media Terry Baxter: “We are stunned to hear the news and can only pass on our condolences to Shelia and their family and friends, Although John was Liverpool through and through he was also a big fan of Ipswich Town and was a regular here at Portman Road.

“When we spoke to the couple a few months ago, he had great delight in telling us of the day the Club beat Barnsley in the Play-Off Final.

“Shelia went to Wembley while John attended a long-standing charity commitment in Bury. He got home to watch the end of the game on TV and was so delighted that Town won, he went outside and painted 4-2 in big blue numbers on his wall. He will be sorely missed.”
