Two goals from Town striker Darren Bent were enough to seal a 2-0 win over Burnley at turf moor this afternoon and pressure league leaders Wigan.

Goalkeeper Kelvin Davis returned to the first XI after 6 weeks out and started his return with a clean sheet (not bad against a dirty team).

Ipswich played the better football out of the two teams but the goal came from a huge kick from Town goalkeeper Davis found Darren Bent on the edge of the Burnley half, Bent raced though on to Jensen’s goal sliding the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 in the 15th minute.

Soon after going behind Burnley thought they had levelled the game up but Robbie Blake was judged to be off-side so had his goal chalked off to leave Town 1-0 up.

Burnley never really got within range of the Ipswich goal and were forced into long range shots and shouts for penalties when their players did find the box although a couple of the long ranger efforts did cause some trouble as Davis failed to hang on to them most notably the ones from Amadou Sanokho and Mo Camara just before half time.

15 minutes into the second half Darren Bent scored his second of the afternoon unleashing an unstoppable shoot in to the roof of the net after cutting inside the Burnley defence.

Micah Hyde came close to making it 2-1 getting his head on the end of Camara’s cross be failing to convert.

It finished 2-0 to Ipswich who remain second in the table but because Wigan lost at home against Plymouth they are now only three points behind the league leaders.
