Currie: “delighted”

Ipswich Town’s new signing Darren Currie is delighted to of Joined Ipswich signing a 2 and a half year deal.

The 30 year old had a medical at Portman Road this morning before signing the contract and could not be happier with the move.

Currie: “It has been an amazing 24 hours really and I'm delighted to be here now, I was shocked when I heard Ipswich wanted me but excited and thrilled at the same time and it's really turned my world upside down.

“To be joining a massive club like Ipswich, one that is chasing a place in the Premiership, is a fantastic opportunity for me.

“It was an easy decision to make, to come to a place like Portman Road, as it would be for many players and now I want to play my part in helping the Club win promotion.”

Less than a month ago Darren was at Portman Road in Brighton colours and has been told by Joe Royle that he did enough to impress Joe during the 90 minutes on the pitch and Darren added: “Joe Royle said he thought I did well in that game and had seen me play a few times before and I can't thank him enough for giving me the opportunity to show what I can do here.

“I also have to thank Mark McGhee who gave me a chance at Brighton in the summer.

“I have spent most of my career playing in the lower leagues but have always felt that I was good enough to play at a higher level.

“I think I'm a player that has got better with age and I look up to players like Teddy Sheringham, who has enjoyed the best years of his career as he has got older.

“Now I have the chance to show what I can do at a really top club. It's a great opportunity for me and I can't wait to get going.

“The team is strong in all departments and there is a massive belief here that we can go up. I just want to play my part in making that happen.”

Darren has been handed the number 10 shirt, which has been vacant since Alun Armstrong left in the summer.
