Ipswich Town have today virtually completed the signing of Canadian international midfielder Jaime Peters.

Ipswich Town have today virtually completed the signing of Canadian international midfielder Jaime Peters.

The 17-year-old has opted to sign for Town despite having trials at premiership side Manchester United as well as Derby County and Millwall.

Jaime had favoured a move to Millwall as he has family in London but has opted for Town and should sign a deal some time in the next 24 hours.

Town manager Joe Royle has said: "Signing Jaime is a great coup for this club.

"We had useful allies in Frank Yallop, the former Ipswich player who is now manager of Canada, and our defender Jason de Vos, who captains them.

"He is an outstanding prospect and will keep active with games for his country at various age levels, before coming here and going straight into our first-team squad."

Due to visa rules Peters will be unable to play for Town until he turns 18 in may.
