Report: Town Vs Sunderland

A late Darren Bent goal saw Town snatch a point against league leaders Sunderland at Portman road earlier today.
Sunderland appeared to be on the road to all three points after coming from 1-0 behind to lead 2-1 with 6 minutes to go before Darren Bent tapped in Pablo Couñago’s pass in the final minute of normal time.
Town were unlucky not to of taken the lead early on when Darren Bent headed Fabian Wilnis’ throw over the bar while at the other end Town were lucky not to of conceded a penalty when Jason De Vos appeared to push the ball away with his hand.
After 23 minutes of high quality football with chance for both sides, Sunderland had a golden chance to take the lead after Wilnis was adjudged to of handled as he went to ground referee Steve Bennett awarded a penalty which former Town man Marcus Stewart stepped up to take spot kick and send it a yard wide of Kelvin Davis’ post, much to the relief of the North Stand who reacted with a chant of “one Marcus Stewart”.
Just after Stewart’s missed penalty Town had claims for one in their favour turned down as they appealed for hand ball against Gary Breen, but the ref had a good view and dismissed the shouts.
As the game headed towards half time David Unsworth sent a free kick just wide of Ingham’s as the teams went in level at half time.
Ten minutes after the restart Liam Lawrence should of put Sunderland in front but some how sent his shot wide and the black cats were made to pay ten minutes later as Richard Naylor bundled home Darren Currie’s cross to give Town the lead.
Straight away Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy made two changes as his team had to chase the game, Marcus Stewart and Chris Brown coming off and being replaced by Steven Elliott and Brian Deane.
The change had an impact in under 5 minutes as Deane’s header across the penalty box was met by Elliott who slotted the ball into the net.
Sunderland took the lead with 6 minutes to go when Robinson made the most of Jason De Vos failing to clear the ball and placed the ball home.
With all three points seemingly on the coach back to Sunderland, Darren Bent popped up to hit in Pablo Couñago’s pass to level the scores.
