Joe: Clubs Missed Bent Chance

Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle has said a number of clubs missed the chance to sign former Town striker Darren Bent in the summer.

Bent is currently the premierships top goal scorer with 7 goals in seven premiership games and Royle says a number of clubs must be kicking them selves after not following up initial enquires.

Royle: “I would be lying if I said I wasn't the slightest bit surprised by Benty's start to life in the Premiership, where he has been scoring even more consistently than he did in the Championship last season.

“I expected it might take him a little bit longer to get into his stride and the way he has settled down in the top flight must be making some other managers think.

“When we sold Darren to Charlton in the close season theirs was the only serious offer on the table.

“Other clubs looked at him, and some made enquiries without following up their interest with a firm bid, and it wouldn't surprise me if some managers were now wishing they had gone the extra yard.”
