Report: Luton 1-0 Town

The final nail appears to have been put in Town’s play-off hopes coffin following a 1-0 defeat against Luton Town earlier today.

The home side made the brighter start to the game, they registered their first on goal after 8 minutes when Carlos Edwards put his effort wide of Shane Supple’s goal.

 

Town dominated the game for large spell, largely thanks to having the extra man in midfield but they simply could not get any shots on goal, Luton ‘keeper Marlon Beresford didn’t touch the ball until the 21st minute when he punched away a corner.

 

The lack of finishing came close to haunting Town in the 28th minute when Steve Robinson nearly lobbed the ball over Supple, a minute later Edwards had fired wide from 20 yards before Steve Howard forced Supple into a save with a curling effort from 25-yards.

 

Finally in the 39th minute Town made an attempt on goal, Jimmy Juan scuffing his shot from 12-yards.

 

The home side started the second half the better side as well, emerging from the changing rooms looking a for a goal, inside the first five minutes of the second half they came close to having the lead three times, Dean Morgan and Rowan Vine both missing the goal while Edward’s could only find Supple from 12 yards out.

 

Dean Bowditch came on for Matt Richards after 54 minutes as Town manager Joe Royle (who contrary to our April fools joke did not leave the club last night) tried to get Town into the game.

 

Jimmy Juan did his best from 25-yards, his shot going wide of the upright on 57 and Alan Lee tested Beresford a minute later but failed to find a way past him, chances came few and far between at this point.

 

Lee fired over the bar on 74 minutes, Garvan had a shot blocked soon after but it was the home side who scored the only goal of the game on 81 minutes, Steve Howard finding the back of the net and Luton saw out the game.
