Wait goes on for Pools Fans

Hartlepool United are still to announce who will be managing the team next season. While it seems a lot of the other clubs that parted company with their gaffer at the end of the season have their new man in place, the one text message that Pools Fans are waiting for has yet to see the light of day.

Rumours have wings, truth has leaden boots. And so, with a continuing background of rumours, the news we really want to hear from the club - about the appointment of a new manager - has yet to materialise. It seems that names are being occasionally mentioned, but there's no concrete information beyond someone declaring that they would be interested in the Pools job.

What news there has been is of players signing contracts. David Foley, Graham Low, Michael Rae and Tony Davison have agreed their first pro deals in the last week; Darrell Clarke is also staying despite apparent interest from Lincoln. Good news for the youngsters in particular and hopefully they will continue to develop and get into the first team reckoning. However it's the matter of who will be deciding on that first team that concerns Pools Fans.

Someone somewhere has made decisions on these players, and the smart money would be on Chris Turner - probably with some advice from Paul Stephenson. Whether Turner is also trying to tempt other players to the club - with rumours that we're interested in Sheffield Wednesday winger John Paul McGovern circulating - remains to be seen.

When can we expect an announcement? Presumably interviews and discussions have been going on over the last three weeks or so, and I would imagine that we shouldn't have too much longer to wait. If the announcement isn't this week I would hope that it's next - although there are of course no guarantees. In the meantime at least there's the World Cup to distract ourselves with!
