Wrexham ended a dismal 3 month home run without a victory, courtesy of a 2-1 win over fellow promotion chasers Torquay, at the Racecourse Ground.

However it was the visitors who started the brightest, despite a 6 hour coach journey, and capitalised on a defensive blunder from Denis Lawrence to take the lead in the 18th minute. The 'Tallman's' clearance hit Tony Bedeau and his shot could only be parried into the net by the exposed Andy Dibble

The 'Dragons' were quick to react and the league's leading scorer added another goal to his already healthy tally with a low right foot shot on the edge of the area after Hector Sam had found him in space.

The Devonian visitors were troubled with injuries during their short stay in North Wales, and had to use all 3 substitutes. This seemed to affect their shape and continuity and it was the home side who clinched all 3 points with a simply stunning strike.

Steve Thomas lay off the ball to Carlos Edwards, who to the surprise of everyone hit a thunderous 25 yard screamer into the top corner past the stunned Dearden. Cue a Caribbean celebration off Wrexham's current player of the season. It was no more than Carlos deserved, with the tricky winger making a number of gliding runs which left Torquay's defence grounded.

So, finally a victory from the Racecourse - the first since a 3-2 home win over Bournemouth on 9th November. The Dragons climb up to 8th in the division 3 table, but have the benefit of at least 2 games in hand over the majority of their fellow promotion rivals

There is no game next weekend, as our derby game at Shrewsbury is awaiting to be re-arranged due to their FA Cup tie with Chelsea. The next game sees a return to Premier Cup action, with a trip to Port Talbot to take on Welsh Premier club Afan Lido. The following Saturday we are again at home, as we welcome Scunthorpe to the Racecourse - who were our opponents on the first day back in the 3rd division.
