Scally: I was stunned and horrified

Gillingham chairman speaks of his shock and hurt after the abuse suffered on Friday. There are also rumours in the local paper that he may be preparing a statement about his future following the 'horrific' abuse he suffered on Friday night.

In a local paper it claims that the Gillingham chairman was preparing a statement following the meeting in Scotland with the Bank of Scotland.

He apparently refused to say what the statement was about but it is believed that it is going to be either about Paul Scally's future, or what happened during yesterday's meeting/

Speaking to the Medway Standard Scally said, "The reaction of the crowd was unprecedented." He went on, " I was horrified and I am still stunned. We have brought in eight new players and each one is a decent player. I can't fault the team or Ronnie (Gillingham boss Ronnie Jepson) and I suppose it's better that they have a go at me. Even so, I can't describe how hurt I feel right now.

"I took some serious abuse at half-time and during the second half. By the end it seemed as if everyone in the ground was having a go. To say I was stunned would be an understatement. There's a lot I could say, but until I have met with the bankers I'd rather not add anything."

The paper then claims that it was surprising how many fans were joining in, but from where I was I only saw a section of the Rainham End and the Brian Moore stands chanting.

But apparently Gillingham chairman Paul Scally wasn't making a regular trip to Scotland. Scally told the Medway Standard that the meeting was for a specific purpose. This could mean a host of things but it could be that he is preparing to walk away following the abuse from some of the Priestfield faithful, and yesterdays meeting was discussing the possibilty of putting Gillingham into administration. This would leave the Gills bottom of League 1 by three points after the 10 point deduction from administration, and make relegation to League 2 very likely.
