Leeds - Transfer window silence...

By Andy Baggott
September 1 2011

Following the departure of Max Gradel, there was expected to be a last minute flurry of activity at Elland Road last night, and…….nothing.  It was a big surprise that nothing was resolved last night, and as surprising that no noises are coming out of Leeds at the moment.

Everything was quiet last night which suggests that everyone was busy behind the scenes – desperate to do a deal….or that there were no targets.  I would be hoping that the former option is true…

Leeds Chairman Ken Bates is due to speak to Yorkshire Radio today in his weekly catch up, and his words will be very carefully listened to.  ‘greedy agents’, ‘last minute change of minds’ and ‘pipped by a Premiership side’ won’t wash, and the fans need to hear something positive.  Certainly a defender or two were needed before Gradel’s departure – but surely a replacement was needed.  There is still the loan window, and I am expecting this to be fully utilised – not by some journey man, or some kid who needs experience, but a few good players, with an option to sign them – players playing for a deal…

Bates is due on this afternoon, and I would also expect to hear from Simon Grayson today to see what Leeds’ plan actually is…

other then the odd player(Lichaj, Gradel), loan players havent really worked under Grayson. i would rather us sign free agents James McFadden(Gradel replace) and Richard Hughes(back up centre midfielder). then go down that route

Bates interview at 1 is going to be interesting

Personally would prefer not to bring in another one season player in Hughes when we already have that in Brown, Beggars cant be chooser and all that i guess, McFadden would be a coup

Whats the problem ?......so the club (not we) have not purchased at the last panic station....but are doing what a lot of businesses do...wait for the players who cant get a club, who need a good deal, who cant listen to greedy agents...(if Peter Crouch (an England player and friend of Harry Redknap would be a surplus player at Spurs hadnt he signed for Stoke)....avialable for loan only....thats an example...but there are lesser players who are struggling to keep a club as their contracts are up shortly....but can still do a loan...or be on the scrapheap.....take your pick Ken..he wouldnt know about all this would he?...not effin many he wouldnt..(Sm6)

Richard Hughes can cover a few position, like a better Andy Hughes, he isnt great but back up is what we need

FLATTY sounds like BB at the mo. I'm taking everything he says with 'a pinch of salt' as he has to be on a wind-up right?

This club is going nowhere & doing nothing whilst KB is here. Grayson: you should be ashamed of yourself for putting up with Bates - you're supposed to be a Leeds fan! I don't see you by my side mate...

But if SG wasn't in charge Vic then imagine what cheap scrubber we'd have instead.

So let's play out the scenario a little further: I'm a premiership footballer, earning let's say 25k a week. I've had a bad couple of years (injuries, alcohol, didn't get on with the manager, just couldn't be arsed to train hard enough, whatever...)

So here I am, contract terminated by my club, free agent..

I know I'm going to have to drop to Championship. Agent touts me around and it seems I have options with Brizzle City, Dull City, Brighton, Leeds. The first 3 will pay me 10k a week. Big drop but I won't quite be on the breadline.
As my agent is banned from ER I Have to fly to Monaco ( at my own expense) to meet KB. After I've scrubbed re deck (bizarre initiation ceremony I'm thinking), he tests me on my knowledge of the Crown colour scheme and the difference between Matt and Gloss. Not sure may answer that they were the Bros brothers goes down too well, but eventually he offers me a 6 week trial on the corporate box decoration at £108 a week, a full £20 more than Jobseeker's he helpfully points out.
If I come through this trial he'll let Simon have a look at me and a 1000% pay increase to £ 1000 a week could be on the cards. He sees me as a potential solution to the LW position that seems to be a problem area. Apparently doesn't want to play Nunez there as he's on pay per play and anyone he's enjoying winding up some lass called Victoria Croll.
I point out I'm a tough-tackling CB not a winger.

I'm tempted as Leeds apparently have a great hiStory and fan base and are - according to well placed sources - on an "upward curve".

But something just seems fishy.. What should I do?

This is a crucial time between the club and it's fans.
Whatever gets said by KB or SG will be ignored ,sneared at and spat back.
The Loan Window opens in a week and if there aren't at least 2/3 arrivals that actually ADD something to the team/squad then expect even more grief, protests and major disharmony.
I'm still just about calm enough to wait and see but it's a huge call the club has to make if they want to make anything out of the season and saying "There's always Jan" won't wash.

Does anyone else think if the fat controler refuses to spend, the Grayson will not be here at the end of the season?
Grayson, surly wont be bates 'puppet' much longer, after all it is the manager that gets it 'in the neck' although true LEEDS fans know the truth, and that each time Grayson says, "we dont need anyone" that it is B-LLOCKS!

"We are all doomed mr manwaring"

It was SGs fault that nothing got done yesterday, not KBs.

SG/KB need to quickly show the fans there is actually a plan in place that is being followed.

I am aware we would have gone out to sign Lichaj in the window only to find he was out for 4 months which scuppered any deal.

Having seen Foxes and Hammers being active in the window, my eyes did go greem. Then I read Lloyd's message and everything was put back into perspective again.
