Cardiff 2 Leeds 1

Leeds slipped to defeat against a strong Cardiff side on Saturday, as the lack of depth in the squad came back to bite them. Leeds had a terrible start when Ross McCormack was stretchered off within 3 minutes. McCormack has had a fine start to the season, and his loss hit the visitors hard. The first half, to be fair, was a dour affair, with little in the way of chances. There were plenty of challenges flying in, but there was a distinct lack of quality as neither goalkeeper was really tested.
The second half was a better spectacle, but most of the football was played by Cardiff. Leeds though defended well, and looked to be holding on. However, Craig Bellamy, fresh off the subs bench changed that, with a stunning free kick that flew into the top corner. 1 soon became 2 shortly afterwards. This time though, Leeds could count themselves unlucky, when Tom Leeds was very harshly judged to foul Maynard - the resulting penalty made it 2-0. Leeds looked down and out, but pulled back a goal with a long range free kick from Rodolph Austin. The Jamaican hot a low free kick from fully 30 yards that skidded into the back of the net. Leeds continued to press, and Peltier should have done better with a header - at the other end though, Paddy Kenny had to be alert as he pulled off a succession of fine saves. The result was right, with Cardiff the better team, and Leeds need to get some quality into the squad urgently before the season fades away before it has even started...
